Welcome New Account Executive Paul McNally!

November 28, 2018 By Patrick L. Burns Leave a Comment

Arc 3 Communications welcomes Paul McNally as Account Executive. McNally is a recent graduate of Kennesaw State University with a bachelor’s degree in Communication & Media Studies. With a strong passion and skill for writing, research, content creation, marketing and media, he is the perfect addition to Arc 3 Communications.

During his career, McNally has worked on many impressive projects. His proudest work was teaming up with the non-profit Sober Living America in creating a media kit and campus event at Kennesaw State University which raised awareness of addiction among young adults and students. He wrote multiple articles that were published in the 2018 edition of KSU’s communication magazine, Pipeline including alumni stories; coverage of the dedication ceremony of the new radio lab named for the late Rhubarb Jones, a beloved Atlanta country music radio host; and a story on a new study abroad program in Milan, Italy. Prior to attending Kennesaw State University, Paul attended the Art Institute of Atlanta where he studied graphic design and animation. While a senior at KSU, he interned for an entire year at Arc 3 Communications with company president Patrick L. Burns.

In his free time, he likes to read, write, draw, and spend time with his wife, Cobb County school teacher Trish McNally and their lovely black Labrador, Malcolm. Together the couple loves traveling, hiking, and enjoying nature. They just recently returned from traveling abroad with the Workaway program, a service program that allows people to work a variety of jobs in return for food and board, in which they volunteered all around Europe. During their three-and-a-half-month trip they worked on farms in Sweden, art festivals and foster animal care in Wales, a tango event in Germany, gardening in London, as well as visiting Amsterdam and Denmark.

“I am really excited to work with Arc 3 Communications to bring clients quality content and account service,” McNally said, “It is an innovative company doing amazing work with the top associations and companies from across the country right in the heart of downtown Marietta.”

Happy Thanksgiving! 10 Things I Am Thankful For

November 27, 2014 By Patrick L. Burns Leave a Comment

ThanksgivingHappy Thanksgiving from Arc 3 Communications! As we celebrate the 3rd anniversary of our agency, it is good to reflect upon those things that I am thankful for.

1. I am thankful for our clients in the civic space that have entrusted us over the years to help with their content, digital marketing and social media needs. We have worked with clients ranging from government agencies to trade associations to political campaigns at the local, state and national levels. We have developed digital marketing and social media campaigns, new websites, content marketing plans and all types of amazing content to help them accomplish their legislative, policy, electoral and civic engagement goals.

2.  I am thankful for the talented team of creatives, digital marketing, social media, technical and public affairs experts at Arc 3. I am also thankful for our interns that have breathed life into our agency with new ideas and enthusiasm for our mission.

3.  I am thankful to our vendors who have become trusted partners in helping us to carry out our mission. These knowledgeable experts in accounting, the law, banking and technology are indispensable.

4. I am thankful to the awesome team at Strongbox West who provide us with an affordable, fun and innovative office space to work in that is filled with other startups in the creative, digital and technology space. The shared learning from other entrepreneurs has been immeasurable.

5. I am thankful to the many innovators in digital, social media and technology that have transformed marketing from a traditional marketing model to a world driven by content. This includes not only the creators of the well-known platforms such as WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and Tumblr; but the countless other innovators who developed lesser known digital and social media platforms that have helped to create a competitive marketplace that produces amazing channels for communication and sharing.

6. I am thankful to our agency competitors for new business in the content, digital marketing and civic space who by their efforts in the marketplace, push us to do better, innovate and strive to be our best.

7. I am thankful for the digital, social media, creative and start-up community of Atlanta in which we are constantly learning new things through shared knowledge and crowd sourced learning. I am most grateful to the Social Media Club of Atlanta, SouthWired (former Digital Atlanta) and the many Meetups around the city that are ongoing.

8. As Founder of an agency focused on the civic space, I am thankful for the many long-standing institutions in government, politics and civic life and the people and ideas that sustain them. The great civitas of our country depends upon engaged citizens, media, candidates, elected officials, trade association and non-profit executives and public servants in government at all levels.

9. I am thankful for the countless numbers of friends and former colleagues throughout my career in government and politics, academia and the agency world who have offered encouragement and referred business our way.

10. I am most thankful to my family for their constant love and support through my entrepreneurial journey. My family has shared this experience with me every step of the way. It is hard to express my gratitude and thanks to my four children and most especially my wife Mary. My wife’s selflessness, determination and love for me has been the rock upon which my success has been built.

Finally, I am most thankful to God to whom all thanks must be given. Without his love and my faith in him, my entrepreneurial journey would have never gotten off the ground 3 years ago.

What are you most thankful for this year? Please share with us!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Arc 3 Communications

December 19, 2013 By Patrick L. Burns Leave a Comment

Thank you to our clients, friends and colleagues who have helped to make Arc 3’s 2nd year a great success. We set out to do ambitious and interesting work in 2013, and our clients have entrusted us to do just that.

Over the last year, we have done innovative work in the area of content marketing, digital and social media for clients in the political, public affairs and government space. It has been our passion to help trade associations, right-center campaigns and local and state governments evolve their communications and marketing strategies to fit the digital age.

Content and measurable data are both important to us. Arc 3 has helped clients to develop and implement effective strategies and campaigns that help them to achieve their organizational goals in a complex media and public affairs landscape. Content marketing and digital and social media only work if they help an organization to reach those real world objectives that result in a return on their investment.

The golden age of mass media communications through print, television and radio has begun to fade, and a new multi-platform and digital age has begun. The digital age has resulted in new ways in which people – especially millenials – are processing issue and policy information.

Over the last several years, businesses have been going through a transition from traditional marketing to content marketing out of necessity in order to reach consumers. Our civic institutions, campaigns and trade associations will have to change as well in order to sustain their key roles in the public square.

As our agency grows and evolves in the dynamic landscape in media and public affairs, we look forward to another year of fun, interesting and purposeful work.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Patrick L. Burns, Founder and President, Arc 3 Communications

What You Need to Know about Dig South and the Southeastern Knowledge Economy

April 25, 2013 By Patrick L. Burns Leave a Comment

Arc 3 Communications recently attended the first annual Dig South Interactive Festival in Charleston, SC. The festival was launched to celebrate the Southeastern knowledge economy and show that Austin, Boston and Silicon Valley have nothing on the creativity, innovation and culture of the South. Charleston, with its “Silicon Harbor” community of startups was the perfect place to host this rival festival to Austin’s SXSW.

The Southeastern knowledge economy is clearly an underdog in today’s tech economic development space race, but events like Dig South help to highlight the potential that places like Charleston have in developing technology and creative industry startups. It remains a little known fact, that a lot of startups are created in the Southeast but eventually leave for Silicon Valley for additional funding.  This fact is widely acknowledged by Southeastern economic development leaders, and efforts like Dig South reflect the need to stop this flow of startups to outside of the region.

The assets of the Southeastern knowledge economy were on full display at Dig South. On the first day participants were able to go on a “Studio Strut” of some eleven creative studios in Charleston. Many of these studios lined the city’s fabled King Street, and were full of creative people in graphic design, digital and marketing who loved their companies’ large co-working studios. These creatives were reflective of the South’s long tradition of artistry exemplified by writers such as Flannery O’Connor, Walker Percy and William Faulkner. The culture of the South is unique in places like Charleston, and is a draw for young creatives who essentially can choose to live wherever they like in today’s digital economy.

Like SXSW, Dig South had a strong musical component. Attendees could “Dig In” with some quality bands in country, indie rock and rhythm and blues. Birthplace of both R&B and the Grand Ole Opry, the Southeast’s musical prominence was reflective in the smorgasbord of bands from Danger Muffin to Roscoe Bandana to Lee Fields and the Expressions. For creatives whose work often thrives with the sounds of music, the fullness of the Southeast’s musical culture is a compelling case for living, working and playing here.

The biggest draw for Dig South was of course the interactive conference.  Charleston was clearly a draw for some quality presenters, moderators and panelists. Attendees were treated to a wide range of speakers and panelists including from Facebook, Twitter, CNN.com, HNLtv.com and Contently. The keynote speaker Robert Tercek, Chairman of the Creative Visions Foundation provided an insightful talk about innovation and the future of media.

However, a true testament to the knowledge economy of the South was the quality presenters who were local, such as Steve Parker, founder of Levelwing, the staff of Garden and Gun Magazine, and executives from Blackbaud, PeopleMatter and Benefitfocus. The local presenters exemplified why the Southeast has long been a hub for technology and innovation.  The South is home to a strong aerospace and space industry consisting of Lockheed Martin, Boeing and NASA;  a strong automotive industry with companies like Nissan, BMW, Mercedes, Kia, and Volkswagen; and a cable media industry with powerhouses such as CNN, Turner Broadcasting and The Weather Channel. The South’s history of innovation began with strong public land grant technologically based universities and world renown research facilities such as the Centers for Disease Control, the Research Triangle Park, and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. For engineers and technologists looking for a place steeped in the modern history of technology and innovation, the South is a natural draw.

The successful Dig South Festival showed that South’s rich culture of creativity, technology and innovation is the springboard for a knowledge economy that will continue to produce and grow many new startups. For those in the creative, tech, media and digital industries, block out next year’s trade show calendar and save the date for Dig South 2014 on April 9th to 13th in Charleston. You will be glad that you did.

Storify and the Power of Content Curation

October 2, 2012 By Patrick L. Burns Leave a Comment

Storify is a powerful tool for content curation. In today’s digital age of social media and mobile devices, everyone is now a content producer as the 24 hour news cycle yearns for instant reporting of news events. Storify is a platform upon which individuals can aggregate tweets, posts, photographs, videos and links from social media including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, Google+, Reddit and Flicker to create powerful stories on any subject matter. Storify creates a new layer above the social networks that helps users create a coherent story that is interactive and dynamic.

Started in 2009 in San Fransico, Ca. by founders Burt Herman and Xaxier Damman, Storify currently has well over a million and half individual users. News media outlets from the Wall Street Journal to ABC News have reporters and editors that are using Storify to curate content from the social web. Presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Barack Obama also utilize Storify in their campaign efforts. Team Romney has created 145 stories while President Obama’s campaign has created 78 stories on Storify. The Romney campaign was able to obtain over 38,000 views of a Storify story regarding a bus tour that coincided with Romney’s announcement of Paul Ryan as his pick for Vice President. President Obama’s campaign used Storify to highlight First Lady Michelle Obama’s trip to the Olympics in London to draw attention to her visit.

Our founder and President of Arc 3 Communications, Patrick Burns recently used Storify to curate content from social media to tell the story of his experience as a Delegate from Ga. to the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla. Patrick was able to use Storify’s bookmarklet to drag and drop status updates, photos and videos from Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, YouTube and Instagram to bring together the social media elements that best illustrated his experience as a Delegate in Tampa. Storify not only allowed for the collection of elements from social media, but also allowed for the writing of a headline, introduction and text inside his story. As one who utilized social media and pitched traditional media at the convention, Storify was an excellent vehicle to assist Patrick in pulling together all the elements of his trip and better communicate his experience. Upon completion of his story, Storify also allowed Patrick to share his story with his social networks, and notify all the people quoted in his story such as comedian, Dennis Miller; RNC Chairman, Reince Preibus; Mitt Romney; Chris “The Fix” Cillizza of the Washington Post, Erik Erickson of Red State.com and Timothy Carney of the Washington Examiner. Storify’s platform also allows readers to interact with the social media elements of Patrick’s story and share it with their followers.

Below is a link to Patrick’s story in Storify regarding his experience as a Delegate as told via the many social media networks that were prevalent at the RNC Convention.

Announcing the Launch of Arc 3 Communications

March 13, 2012 By Patrick L. Burns Leave a Comment

Dear Friends:

I am pleased to announce the launch of Arc 3 Communications, a full service Atlanta based agency that provides public relations, interactive marketing and public affairs services to businesses, trade associations and non-profits throughout the Southeast.

After almost a decade at one of the oldest independent public relations agencies in the Southeast and with over 20 years’ experience in media and public affairs, I have made the decision to create a new type of agency that meets the needs of clients in the evolving media world.

Arc 3 is able to offer integrated solutions to clients that are customized by specialists who truly understand the nexus of media, technology and public affairs. We bring together public relations, interactive marketing and public affairs specialists from media, politics, the arts, non-profits, and business together into the same agency.

In today’s dynamic media and public affairs environment, Arc 3’s integrated services are more efficient and cost-effective than traditional agencies and provide greater return on investment for clients. While other public relations agencies are slow to change, Arc 3 is at the forefront of media and technology.

Arc 3 Communications provides a multi-disciplinary, diverse set of services ranging from media relations to social media to grassroots mobilization. Our comprehensive cross-platform approach integrates traditional media, social media and mobile with public affairs strategy to achieve client objectives.

Arc 3 has thinkers, solvers and doers. Our innovation, insight and integrity have created trusted, long-standing relationships that benefit our clients and achieve exceptional results.

When starting my career over 20 years ago in a world of pagers, payphones and rolls of quarters on the campaign trail, I never would have imagined the transformation that has occurred in media and public affairs. However, despite all the changes one thing has never changed- personal relationships.

I have been blessed to start a new company because of the help of friends, colleagues, mentors, and clients over the years who know that business is about long-term relationships and a commitment to a better marketplace.

At Arc 3 Communications, we look forward to the opportunity to build on our success and help you achieve results. Please contact us for a free initial consultation. We look forward to the opportunity to be of service to you.

Sincerely,
Patrick L. Burns
President, Arc 3 Communications
